 Press Releases

  • Orion Governance, a leader in Metadata Management solutions and the provider of the Enterprise Information Intelligence Graph (EIIG), the foundation for a self-defined data fabric, has announced it was ranked No. 1 on the list of data catalog vendors in the Dresner Advisory Services’ 2022 Data Catalog Market Study.

The report found the top three data catalog feature priorities for 2022 includes a data
dictionary, catalog multiple databases, and integration with self-service data-prep
tools. The 2022 Dresner report shows that almost 20 percent of survey respondents rank data catalog as critical, almost doubling compared to 2017.

“Data cataloging is part of Orion’s core foundation and data catalogs are a ‘must-have’ for data and analytics leaders,” says Ramesh Shurma, Founder and CEO of Orion. “We provide organizations with independence in understanding and locating data they can trust. We are truly honored to be recognized as the #1 Data Catalog vendor in 2022 by Dresner.”

“Data catalogs have emerged as a core set of capabilities for making content easier to find and govern, especially when multiple data sources are involved, and for multiple analytic use cases,” said Howard Dresner, founder and chief research officer at Dresner Advisory Services. “We congratulate Orion on their top ranking in this year’s assessment of the Data Catalog market.”

Dresner Advisory Services was formed by Howard Dresner, an independent analyst, author, lecturer, and business adviser. • Orion Governance, a leader in Metadata Management solutions and the provider of the Enterprise Information Intelligence Graph (EIIG), the foundation for the data fabric, announced the support for the Python programming language.

Ranked as one of the top 3 popular programming languages in the world, Python is a general purpose programming language conceived in 1991. It is recognized for the wide variety of programming functionality packaged in modules, supported by a worldwide community, resulting in the ease of programming using Python. Python is widely adopted across all industries including: Insurance, Banking, Finance, and Healthcare, and used for web development, gaming, scientific applications, artificial intelligence and machine learning and other application development.

“The result of a powerful language like Python is millions of lines of code. The flip side of this is the need for enterprises to take control of their Python assets to address needs such as Security, Data Trust, Data Traceability and manage changes more effectively. Orion’s Enterprise Information Intelligence Graph (EIIG) is the only platform that offers the ability to process Python scripts and allow for cataloging, lineage, impact analysis, data profiling and capturing the flow of information between Python, Java, SQL, Spark and other technologies. The net result is better Data Science, reliable Data Science models and effective insight into what is going on inside the code, without needing to be a programming guru,” says Ramesh Shurma, Orion CEO.

  • Orion Governance, a leader in Metadata Management solutions and the provider of the Enterprise Information Intelligence Graph (EIIG), the foundation for the data fabric, announced the support for the AS400/RPG programming language.

The AS400/RPG programming language was introduced by IBM in 1979. It is still widely used by banks, retailers and logistics companies supporting programming languages that include RPG, Java, COBOL, SQL, Python amongst others. Whilst the AS400 has reliably supported organizations, companies are looking to modernize their applications to leverage the scalability of cloud-based infrastructure and the availability of knowledgeable resources.

“In the process of the modernization, we see companies face a big hurdle when it comes to getting a clear picture of the AS400 application landscape. Given the variety of programming languages that the AS400 supports, getting a clear view of the information flow necessary to achieve regulatory compliance such as SOX, CCPA, GDPR, etc. is a big challenge. Orion’s Enterprise Information Intelligence Graph (EIIG) can seamlessly catalog assets in the AS400 and trace the flow of information in the AS400 through RPG, Java, Python, COBOL and SQL. This allows for a near time picture of information flow and impact analysis, but also a significant reduction in migration costs, which would otherwise require countless hours of human capital and present a high risk of failure. Orion’s EIIG enables acceleration, guaranteed success and cost-optimization,” says Ramesh Shurma, Orion CEO.

  • Orion Governance, a leader in Metadata Management solutions and the provider of the Enterprise Information Intelligence Graph (EIIG), the foundation for the data fabric, was named a Cool Vendor in the October 2020 Gartner Cool Vendors in Graph Technologies report.

“The Cool Vendor report is an affirmation of the value that Orion’s Enterprise Information Intelligence Graph (EIIG) brings to our customers. We have pioneered “fact-based governance,” taken the road less traveled. I’d like to thank the Gartner analysts, our customers and the Orion team for having made this possible. Orion is committed to its promise of accelerating time to value by continuing to innovate and provide game changing technologies,” said Ramesh Shurma, CEO of Orion Governance.

The Cool Vendor report states, “The growing business need for context-aware applications requires a swift, continuous and multilayered analysis of any data. This is best achieved with graph technologies that can combine disparate data to uncover relationships and patterns.” Read a copy of the full Cool Vendors Report featuring Orion Governance.
