Busy retail distribution centers (DCs) are the center of ongoing activity, high traffic and constant inventory deliveries and pickups. Unfortunately, inventory losses can result from misloaded orders, items damaged in transit, or targeted theft activities. To help combat losses in retail warehouses and DCs, Telaid, a trusted, full-service technology integrator for more than 40 years, today announced a partnership with Darvis, a provider of productivity as a service platform that uses AI and computer vision to provide ultimate visibility.

Telaid partnered with Darvis to deploy an AI and computer vision technology solution that helps one major retail client identify targeted and accidental inventory losses. The system monitors boxes that pass through the loading dock doors on and off of delivery trucks. Darvis’ computer vision technology is capable of reading barcode scanners posted on every box and determining if that particular box is scheduled for pickup. If the box is either accidentally or deliberately loaded onto the wrong truck, the system generates a notification immediately so that the manager or LP team can take action.

“Darvis’ innovative AI and computer vision solution delivers automated situational awareness that helps our customers provide oversight 24×7, because managers can’t be in multiple places at once. This solution demonstrates the power of technology to overcome significant business challenges and support a stronger bottom line,” said Telaid’s Senior Vice President of Solution Strategy & Brand Experience, Beth Bergmann.

Perception-based computer vision capabilities lend context to video captured in the distribution center, instantly flagging potential mishandling or theft to prevent losses. Return on investment is delivered, not only in terms of salvaged inventory, but also in the value of understanding the nature and frequency of losses, which can then be addressed from an operational perspective.

“Darvis is proud to rely on Telaid to deploy our solution and help deliver ongoing support. We feel confident that our solution is deployed with the proper infrastructure, configuration and support to help optimize performance. We look forward to partnering with Telaid to empower more retailers with automated situational awareness,” said Jan-Philipp Mohr, co-founder and CEO of Darvis.

Contactless and automated kiosk adds to growing lineup of technologies offered by company for easy grocery PickUp services

Albertsons Companies (NYSE: ACI) today announced that it is the first American grocer to pilot an automated and contactless grocery PickUp kiosk. The kiosk, located at one of its Jewel-Osco stores in Chicago, demonstrates the continued expansion of the company’s eCommerce business and deep commitment to providing easy service through its websites and apps.

The automated, temperature-controlled kiosk, created by Cleveron, provides a contactless pickup experience. Customers who select the “Kiosk PickUp” option will be offered 2-hr time slots during which to pick up their groceries.

When customers arrive at the kiosk, they scan a code on their phone and their groceries are robotically delivered to the front of the unit for pickup. The unit features two temperature zones—regular and a deep freeze. A customer’s order can be stored in two different zones and still be delivered in the same console for pick up.

The kiosk in Chicago is currently fulfilling orders, and the company plans to install a second unit at a Bay Area Safeway in the near future.

“We are supercharging our digital and omnichannel offerings to serve customers however they want, whenever they want,” said Chris Rupp, EVP and Chief Customer & Digital Officer at Albertsons Cos. “This innovative and contactless PickUp kiosk makes it even easier for customers to shop with us in a way that is convenient for them.”

“Cleveron’s pickup solutions are created to save time and offer convenience for everyone. The customers can drive up to the PickUp Kiosk, scan the code, grab their groceries and go. It is as quick and easy as that,” explained the CEO of Cleveron, Arno Kütt. “We are honored that Albertsons Cos. has selected our technology in their drive to offer the best experience for their customers.”

The kiosk, installed by Telaid, joins a growing lineup of customer-centric services offered by the company to provide contactless fulfillment. In October, Albertsons Cos. installed PickUp lockers at several Jewel-Osco stores. The company already offers Delivery and Drive Up & Go options through its innovative websites and apps, and has relationships with third-party operators to provide delivery options in as fast as two hours.
