  • (Bochum / New York, August 25, 2023) Delivery delays, bottlenecks, larger safety stocks, rising logistics costs: Climate change will lead to more supply chain disruptions and negative economic impacts in the future. This prediction comes from SCM experts at the Bochum-based software company Setlog, in light of current passage restrictions for ships in the Panama Canal. Although the situation in Central America does not significantly impact the German economy, experts advise politicians and companies to take precautions for the future, such as preparing for the transport of raw materials and goods on waterways during low water levels.

  • Sustainability is taking the furniture world by storm.
Consumers are increasingly demanding eco-friendly and ethically produced products, putting manufacturers under pressure to innovate. Technology plays a key role here, especially those that enhance supply chain transparency. This article explores how improved transparency, traceability, and adherence to strict standards can significantly boost the environmental friendliness of furniture. We examine the current state of sustainability in the furniture industry, why supply chain transparency is a game-changer, and the role traceability plays in sustainable practices. Additionally, we show how high standards can be maintained through policies, audits, and corrective actions. A look into the future reveals that with the right tools and the support of technologies like Setlog's OSCA software, the furniture industry can take significant green strides. Discover how sustainability and efficiency go hand in hand to revolutionize the industry.
  • Setlog’s Supply Chain Management (SCM) specialists will join forces with Shippeo’s transportation tracking experts to give Setlog customers an optimized Carrier Booking module that will enable them to track their shipments in real-time. In addition, they will receive exact information on the estimated and actual time of arrival of their shipments (Estimated Time of Arrival, ETA, and Actual Time of Arrival, ATA). The substantial advantage is that companies receive an immediate warning in the event of a delivery delay. They can then react to the disruption and adapt the transport processes to the new circumstances, leading to greater predictability in their supply chains.
  • Climate change is leading to increasingly frequent supply chain disruptions and economic losses. This is the prediction of SCM experts from the Bochum-based software company Setlog in light of the current restrictions in the Panama Canal. Although the situation in Central America hardly affects the German economy directly, the experts advise politicians and companies to prepare for future challenges—especially concerning the transport of raw materials and goods on waterways during low water levels.

Background: A prolonged drought in Central America has led to a shortage of water in the Panama Canal, reducing transit capacity and causing waiting times of up to three weeks. Setlog board member Ralf Duester warns that similar extreme weather events could also lead to significant disruptions in Germany, such as on the Rhine River. Companies should therefore increasingly focus on digitizing their supply chains and planning alternative transport routes. Politicians are called upon to implement proactive measures like improved water level forecasts and infrastructural adjustments to prevent future bottlenecks.

  • Fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld, who passed away in 2019, kept an eye out for new directions in the fashion industry throughout his life. The same applies to the company he founded for its digital transformation. To prepare itself for the future with transparent supply chain management, the well-known fashion brand is introducing the cloud-based software tool OSCA from Setlog GmbH in Bochum, Germany.
  • As the new year unfolds, it's vital for all participants in CBP's CTPAT programs to be aware of two significant changes related to forced labor prevention. Niklas Kirwel, President & CEO of Setlog Corp., highlights these updates that could impact your business.

Change No. 1 – Security Program: Effective January 2023, having a social compliance program is now a mandatory requirement for importers. This program must ensure that all goods imported into the U.S. are free from forced labor, including child and prison labor.

Change No. 2 – Trade Compliance Program: As of August 2022, members must comply with six new obligations, including risk-based supply chain mapping, a clear Code of Conduct, evidence of implementation, due diligence and training, a remediation plan, and sharing best practices.

Companies with existing social compliance frameworks may find the transition smooth, but others need to act promptly. These changes emphasize collaboration and proactive measures to combat forced labor. Dive into the full article to understand how these updates may affect your operations and what steps you need to take to stay compliant.
