 Press Releases

  • First Autonomous Store powered by Reckon.AI technology in Belgium with Carrefour. From frozen products to snack, a 17sqm convenient store.
  • The recent opening of the Aral Pulse charging park with a Reckon.ai powered smart store in the Mönchengladbach Nordpark industrial estate in Germany, was a premiere in several respects. It is Aral's first charging park with a smart store in Germany and, in its form with a lounge, also the first of its kind for BP in Europe. It is therefore no surprise that, in addition to the representatives of the companies involved, many journalists from national media and the NRW Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Transport of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, Oliver Krischer, came to Mönchengladbach to attend the opening. In addition to parking spaces, the 1,600 square meter site offers 28 ultra-fast charging points from Aral Pulse. Located just two minutes from the A 61 motorway and within sight of Borussia Mönchengladbach's stadium, the companies are hoping for a high frequency of use, which should also benefit the smart store with a lounge operated by Lekkerland, which also has modern sanitary facilities.

  • Autonomous Micro Stores Carrefour

The first Carrefour Buybye, measuring just 18 sqm, is located at the retailer’s Belgian headquarters in Zaventem (near Brussels). The tiny shop consists of refrigerators where customers can buy their lunch, snacks, cold drinks and fruit. However, users do have to download the Carrefour Buybye app, create an account and add a payment method before they can use the app to open the fridges, take out products and checkout.

It will only be open Monday to Friday from 7 to 22h to start with, but from January it will be open seven days a week. The new format aims to provide a practical solution for everyday grocery shopping: the idea behind the autonomous micro shops is to serve consumers as close as possible to their homes and workplaces. Carrefour will also offer it to all its existing physical shops, which can use it to expand their operations.

  • 65sqm cashier-free REWE To Go shop
There will be neither cashiers nor the usual self-checkout counters. Instead, customers simply tap a cashless payment method at the start of their purchase, such as debit and credit cards, as well as Google Pay and Apple Pay.
Customers simply take the products out of the smart refrigerators. With the help of artificial intelligence, cameras and sensors, the products can be recognized and debited.
The REWE To Go in Koblenz train station is already the 18th unmanned shop in Germany, with other locations in charging stations, hospitals and office buildings, for example. Christopher Wohlfarth, Head of Commercial Sales in DB's Central Regional Division, is delighted: "With this shop, a convenient, quick shopping option is coming to Koblenz Central Station - in line with our goal of offering travelers and station visitors an attractive station with innovative services."
